Evolving Volotea’s Design System to improve consistency, scalability and cross-team collaboration.
I contributed to the evolution of Volotea’s digital ecosystem by strengthening its Design System, refining reusable components and applying consistent patterns across booking, payment and self-service experiences.
The work connected product needs, technical constraints and implementation requirements, creating a clearer shared foundation for designers and engineers.

Overview
Volotea was evolving its digital products while progressively transitioning from a fragmented legacy system towards a more consistent and scalable Design System. New initiatives continued to be delivered across booking, payment and self-service journeys while components, interaction patterns and documentation were being reviewed and consolidated.
My contribution focused on translating product requirements into reusable solutions, improving consistency across experiences and helping design and engineering teams work from a clearer shared foundation.

The challenge
Volotea’s platform was evolving continuously while legacy components and newer patterns continued to coexist across different journeys. Multiple product initiatives were progressing in parallel, each with its own business priorities, technical constraints and delivery requirements.
The challenge was to improve current experiences without creating further fragmentation, designing solutions that could work immediately while progressively supporting the emerging Design System.

What this project reinforced
This project reinforced that a Design System creates value only when teams can understand, trust and use it consistently. Components are only one part of the foundation: clear documentation, shared decisions and continuous collaboration are what allow a system to evolve alongside the product.
Working within an active digital ecosystem also confirmed the importance of balancing immediate delivery needs with solutions that remain maintainable and reusable over time.
